About the Winning Technology

The Morse Micro MM8108 is a highly integrated Wi-Fi HaLow System-on-Chip built around the IEEE 802.11ah wireless standard. Operating in the sub-GHz spectrum, it combines the range and penetration needed for distributed IoT deployments with the familiar networking, security, and throughput advantages of Wi-Fi.

This combination addresses a long-standing tradeoff in connected infrastructure. Conventional Wi-Fi provides strong throughput and native IP connectivity but can struggle with distance, walls, outdoor coverage, and large physical environments. Lower-power wide-area technologies can extend reach but may not provide the data capacity required for cameras, localized intelligence, richer sensor streams, and responsive edge systems.

The MM8108 bridges that gap by supporting data rates up to 43.33 Mbps, output power up to 26 dBm, low-power sleep behavior, WPA3 security, and flexible USB, SDIO, and SPI host interfaces. Its compact design also integrates power amplification, low-noise amplification, power management, and extensive MAC-layer offload to reduce system complexity and power consumption.

For edge AI and distributed intelligence, the result is more freedom in where devices can be placed and how they can operate. Cameras, meters, industrial sensors, access-control systems, HVAC equipment, energy assets, and other connected devices can remain linked across broader environments without depending on dense access-point placement or costly wired infrastructure.
